IT Comtor와 브릿지엔지니(BRSE)어란?
2025년 06월 24일The origin of IT Comtor and Bridge Engineer (BrSE)
IT Comtor and Bridge System Engineer (Bridge System Engineer) in the mid-2000s, Japan expanded its cooperation with Vietnam as an IT Outsourcing partner. (In Korea, it is often referred to as a Bridge Engineer).
However, the language barrier and cultural differences between the two countries became ostacles to cooperation, so large Japanese IT companies introduced the concept of Comtor and Brige Engineer, whcih was the first position to be introduced when they educated Vietnamese developers and personnel in Japanse and trained them to Japanese IT standards.
Recently, due to the shortage of developers in Korea and the expansion of IT cooperation, the demand for Korean-Vietnamese Comtors and Bridge Engineers is also increasing. However, since the history of IT cooperation between Korea and Vietnam is shorter than that of Japan, there is a severe shortage of essential offshore personnel such as Comtors and Bridge Engineers. It is expected that as the IT cooperation between the two countries expands and time passes, the supply and demand for such personnel will continue to increase.
So, let;s find out what the jobs of an IT Comtor and a Bridge Engineee are and waht the differences are.
Defining the Roles of IT Comtor and Bridge Engineer (BRSE)

Distinction between thr IT Comtor and BrSE
Both IT Comtor and Bridge Engineer (BRSE) are essential core positions in offshore development. Both positions have in common the need for Korean language skills and the ability to understand cultural differences.
However, Comtor is mostly a non-IT major who starts working in the IT industry and develops his career as a planner, coordinator, PM, bridge engineer, etc., and BrSE is often a developer who majored in IT or a developer who can communicate in Korean. In short, Comtor is based on language and IT communication skills, and BrSE is based on development knowledge in addition to language skills.
What is IT Comtor?

Basic skilles of IT Comtor
IT Comtor refers to a professional interpreter in the field of information and communication technology (IT). In other words, they are also called professional interpreters or communicators in the field of IT. Currently, the most popular languages in Vietnam are Korean and Japanese IT Comtor.
In the case of IT comtors in Korea, students and employees with the highest level of Korean language skills (TOPIK level 5~6) are preparing to become IT comtors in Korea.
In any case, IT comtors are expected to have excellent language and interpretation skills and will participate in corporate IT-related tasks, meetings, and projects.
The main tasks of an IT Comtor include translating IT documents for project execution, attending video/face-to-face meetings related to the project and performing interpretation, organizing development-related requirements between the client and the development team, and organizing Q&A.
IT comtors do not necessarily have to carry out or assist projects. Graduates who have passed our TBC (To-Be-Comtor) course also work in general Korean companies (banks, fintech, securities firms, manufacturers, startups, etc.) in IT and Korea-related administrative and IT-related tasks.
What is BRSE (Bridge Engineer)?

BrSE Skills
Bridge engineers are engineers who, as the term suggests, connect the client (ordering company) and the developer. They also perform a managerial role to ensure that the projects being carried out by the client and the developer are successfully completed.
We communicate with customers to increase project satisfaction and ensure that the development team accurately conveys customer requests so that work can be carried out without problems. In offshore projects, bridge engineers have the work capabilities of a project manager (PM) or an engineer.
In addition, Bridge Engineers participate as managers in all stages from project planning to deployment, and support project management and communication between the client and the development team to ensure that deliverables reflecting the client’s requests are completed in a timely manner, maintain close relationships with stakeholders, provide technical support to the development team to ensure that the client’s requested technical specifications are accurately reflected, and perform overall project management tasks such as quality control (QA) at the end of development.
Difference between IT Comtor and Bridge Engineer
Both IT Comtor and Bridge Engineer play important roles in offshoring projects, but their specific roles are different. The Comtor mainly focuses on communication issues between the customer and the development team, while the Bridge Engineer plays a leading role in ensuring that the project runs smoothly by communicating deeply with the development team from a project manager’s perspective based on technical knowledge.
Most non-IT majors with Korean language skills can gain a deeper understanding of IT through Comtor’s work, and can choose various management careers such as planner, PM, and coordinator of offshore projects, including bridge engineers.
BrSE allows you to learn IT skills in a specialized field in depth to grow into an IT expert in a specific field or advance your career as a project manager for offshore projects.
